All neurotoxin injectables — Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin among them — work by temporarily blocking nerve signals to targeted muscles, softening the repetitive muscle contractions that cause dynamic wrinkles like frown lines and crow's feet. Botox and Dysport are formulated with the active neurotoxin bound to accessory proteins that occur naturally alongside it. Xeomin uses a manufacturing process that removes these accessory proteins, leaving a "naked" or "incobotulinumtoxinA" molecule that some clinicians believe reduces the theoretical risk of the body developing neutralizing antibodies over repeated treatment, since there are fewer non-essential proteins for the immune system to potentially respond to.

Does it work differently in practice?

Clinically, Xeomin produces the same core effect as Botox and Dysport: softened dynamic wrinkles through temporary, targeted muscle relaxation. Onset typically begins within three to seven days, with full effect visible around two weeks, similar to other neurotoxins, and results generally last three to four months. Because Xeomin does not require refrigeration before reconstitution the way some other formulations historically have, it also offers some practical advantages for storage and consistency from vial to vial.

Who tends to prefer Xeomin?

That said, the "best" neurotoxin is highly individual — Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin all have slightly different diffusion characteristics and onset timelines that make each one better suited to particular facial areas and patient preferences.
