What is Facial Balancing?
During a BBL Hero session, a handheld device is used to deliver controlled pulses of light to the treatment area. The light energy penetrates the skin and targets specific chromophores, such as melanin or hemoglobin, depending on the skin concern being addressed. This process heats and selectively destroys the targeted cells, prompting the body’s natural healing response.
The treatment typically lasts around 15-30 minutes, depending on the size and number of areas being treated. Before the session, a cooling gel may be applied to the skin to enhance comfort. Most patients describe the treatment as tolerable, with a sensation similar to a rubber band snap or a warm sensation on the skin.

Skin types 1-5 (using the Fitzpatrick scale) can be safely treated with BBL HERO. The device’s chiller system and integrated sapphire chill plate maintain the desired temperature of the skin within one degree of variability.
The use of topical anesthetic is a decision that should be made between the provider and patient. However, it is not necessary because the integrated chill plate keeps the epidermis cool during treatment while allowing the light to safely reach its target.
